- Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Sauté chopped onion until translucent (about 5 minutes).
- Add minced garlic and stir for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Pour in canned tomatoes (crush them with a wooden spoon) and simmer on low for 15 minutes.
- Season with salt, pepper, and freshly chopped basil.
- Stir in grated Parmesan cheese if desired before serving.
