If you haven't tried a tri tip, go to the store, grab one, and follow this super easy recipe on how to grill one.

Wagyu Tri Tip weighing 2#-5#. It doesn't have to be wagyu.
1/2c coarse black pepper
1/4c kosher salt
1tbs garlic powder
1tbs onion powder

Preheat your grill for a 2 zone cooking method. My grill temperature was around 550*. I used a Weber Kettle for this video. You can also use your stove. Pan sear on the stove top, and finish in the oven.
Mix your rub seasonings together very well, and put into a seasoning or cheese shaker. Coat all sides of the tri tip with the rub very generously. When the grill is up to temperature, Sear it for about 2 minutes, then rotate it 90* on the hot, unused portion of the grill, and grill for about another 2 minutes. Repeat this process for the other side of the tri tip. When both sides have a good sear on them, move it to the cooler side of the grill, and smoke it with your favorite hardwood chunks. I used B&B Charcoal's Post Oak wood chunks. Remove from the grill when the tri tip reaches an internal temperature of 125*, and let it rest for about 10 minutes. It's ready to be sliced and served after resting.
