- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 4 medium russet potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 cup whole milk
- 4 tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess grease and add chopped onions until softened.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Add half of the beef mixture and half of the cheese.
- In a bowl, whisk together milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Pour evenly over layered ingredients.
- Repeat layers with remaining potatoes, beef mixture, and top with remaining cheese and dots of butter.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
