- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup fine cornmeal
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup buttermilk (or 1 cup milk + 1 tsp vinegar)
- 1 large egg
- 6 hot dogs (classic beef franks)
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Preheat oil to 375°F (190°C) in a deep fryer or large pot.
- In one bowl, whisk together flour, cornmeal, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, mix buttermilk and egg until smooth, then combine with the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just mixed.
- Insert wooden skewers halfway into each hot dog.
- Dip each hot dog into the batter until fully coated, letting excess batter drip off.
- Carefully place in hot oil, frying for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown on all sides.
- Remove and drain on paper towels; serve hot with dipping sauces.
