- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup cold beer or sparkling water
- 2 large potatoes (Russets recommended)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Tartar sauce for dipping
Instructions
- 1. Prep the Potatoes: Peel and cut the potatoes into thick fries. Soak in cold water for 30 minutes.
- 2. Make the Batter: In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Whisk in cold beer or sparkling water until smooth.
- 3. Heat the Oil: Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
- 4. Fry the Chips: Fry soaked potatoes in batches until golden brown (5-7 minutes). Drain on paper towels.
- 5. Fry the Fish: Dip fish fillets in batter and fry until golden brown (3-4 minutes per side). Drain on paper towels.
- 6. Serve Hot: Plate fish with chips and serve with tartar sauce.
