- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup hot water or coffee
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until combined.
- Create a well in the dry mixture and add the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined.
- Gradually stir in hot water or coffee—the batter will be thin.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in their pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
