- 1 head green cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef (or turkey)
- 1 cup uncooked white rice
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried thyme (or dill)
- 1/2 cup sour cream for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the cabbage leaves by boiling salted water in a large pot. Blanch 12-15 leaves for 2-3 minutes until tender but firm.
- In a bowl, mix ground meat, uncooked rice, chopped onion, salt, pepper, and herbs until combined.
- Assemble the rolls by placing about 3 tablespoons of filling at the base of each leaf; fold in sides and roll tightly.
- Pour half of the tomato sauce into a baking dish; arrange cabbage rolls seam-side down and cover with remaining sauce.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour until bubbling hot.
