  • 1 head green cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey)
  • 1 cup uncooked white rice
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried thyme (or dill)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cabbage leaves by boiling salted water in a large pot. Blanch 12-15 leaves for 2-3 minutes until tender but firm.
  2. In a bowl, mix ground meat, uncooked rice, chopped onion, salt, pepper, and herbs until combined.
  3. Assemble the rolls by placing about 3 tablespoons of filling at the base of each leaf; fold in sides and roll tightly.
  4. Pour half of the tomato sauce into a baking dish; arrange cabbage rolls seam-side down and cover with remaining sauce.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour until bubbling hot.
