  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup green moong dal (soaked overnight)
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 green chilies (finely chopped)
  • 1-inch piece ginger (grated)
  • ¼ cup coriander leaves (chopped)
  • ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tbsp oil or ghee (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the soaked green moong dal until the water runs clear. Blend with enough water to create a smooth batter.
  2. Mix in chopped onions, green chilies, ginger, coriander leaves, and salt until well combined.
  3. Preheat a non-stick pan over medium heat and add oil or ghee.
  4. Pour a ladleful of batter onto the pan and spread into a circle. Cook until bubbles form and edges are golden brown (about 2-3 minutes).
  5. Flip the cheela and cook for another 2 minutes until both sides are crisp and golden.
  6. Serve hot with yogurt or chutney.
