Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 4 burger buns
- 4 slices American cheese
- 1 cup lettuce (shredded)
- 1 medium tomato (sliced)
- 1 small red onion (sliced)
- Ketchup and mustard (to taste)
Instructions
- Preheat your grill or stovetop skillet over medium-high heat.
- Divide the ground beef into four loose balls without compacting; this helps retain juiciness.
- Place each ball on the hot grill and smash down with a heavy spatula to about half an inch thick; season with salt and pepper.
- Cook for about three minutes until browned, then flip each patty, add cheese slices, cover to melt for one minute.
- Lightly butter the insides of the buns and toast them on the grill until golden brown (about one minute).
- Assemble by layering lettuce, tomato, onions, and the cheesy patty on the toasted bun; top with ketchup and mustard.
