Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 4 burger buns
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- 4 slices of cheese (optional)
- Your choice of toppings (lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, special sauces)
Instructions
- Preheat a cast iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat for about five minutes.
- Divide the ground beef into equal portions and roll them into loose balls.
- Place each ball on the hot skillet and smash down to about half an inch thick using a spatula.
- Season generously with salt and pepper immediately after smashing.
- Cook undisturbed for about three minutes until browned, then flip carefully.
- Add a slice of cheese during the last minute if desired, covering briefly to melt.
- Serve on buns with your chosen toppings.
