The Saber Select 4-Burner Infrared Gas Grill “is within the Practical class, making it a unique option if you’re in the market for an all-infrared grill,” explains our very own Chef Tony Matassa. With a slew of real-world tests, we put our resident culinary madman hard at work testing the Saber Select’s performance, features, and quality. What did he find? “Not only were there no runaway fires that I had to contend with, but the burgers grilled about as evenly as one could hope for.” But that wasn’t the end of the performance testing: the good chef put Saber Select through its paces with an old-fashioned surf and turf, followed by its most delicate, difficult challenge yet. (What? Don’t want us spoiling the WHOLE video, do you?)
From test to test, wafting smoke off those seared drippings stirred in a hint of charcoal grilling flavor. That detail alone just might make the Saber Select all-infrared gas grill a great fit for those who can’t live without the convenience of gas, but miss the personality of charcoal. So, what’s the takeaway? Once we’d finally pried the tongs out of Chef Tony’s hands, he gave the Saber Select a resounding thumbs-up. It’s an excellent grill for this price point, especially on an all-infrared build. What’s not to love? Now, if you’ll excuse us, we have a smoky surf and turf ready to scarf down. Surf’s up!

Chef Tony Matassa grew up in the restaurant business, starting in his family’s New Orleans eatery before running one of his own. No wonder he has such vast knowledge of and passion for food science, which he puts to use every day as our jack-of-all-trades (and master of many). Longtime fans of the channel know Tony has been testing grills for more than 10 years, though we’re partial to his performance in our recent Grillabilities℠ series.
