Instructions
- Activate the yeast by mixing warm milk and yeast in a bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, beaten egg, and melted butter.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place it in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for 1-2 hours until doubled.
- Roll out the dough to half an inch thick and cut into squares.
- Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C) and fry beignets until golden brown (about 1-2 minutes per side). Drain on paper towels and dust with powdered sugar.
