- 3/4 cup whole milk (lukewarm)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 large egg (room temperature)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Cream filling (pastry cream or whipped cream)
Instructions
- Activate the yeast by warming the milk and combining it with yeast and sugar; let sit until frothy.
- In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg; stir until a soft dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Allow the dough to rise in a greased bowl covered with a damp cloth for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Roll out the risen dough to about ½ inch thick and cut into donut shapes.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C) and fry donuts for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before injecting cream filling into each donut. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
