- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for frosting)
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
- 2 tbsp milk or cream (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, then mix in buttermilk and vanilla until just combined.
- Gradually incorporate dry ingredients into wet mixture until fully blended.
- Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat cream cheese until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar and milk until desired consistency is reached.
- Frost the cooled cakes generously and enjoy!
