Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in buttermilk and vanilla until just combined.
  5. Gradually incorporate dry ingredients into wet mixture until fully blended.
  6. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, beat cream cheese until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar and milk until desired consistency is reached.
