- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- 1 ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs (room temperature)
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round 9-inch baking pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until fluffy.
- In another bowl, mix eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla until combined. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir gently.
- Slowly add boiling water while stirring until smooth. Pour batter evenly into prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
- For frosting, beat softened butter with cocoa powder; gradually add powdered sugar and milk until creamy. Frost cooled cakes as desired.
