  • 1 cup dry red wine
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Sauté onions, carrots, and celery until softened (about 5 minutes).
  2. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute before incorporating ground beef. Cook until browned (approximately 7 minutes).
  3. Pour in red wine and let it simmer until reduced (about 3 minutes).
  4. Stir in canned tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a gentle boil then reduce heat to low.
  5. Allow the sauce to simmer uncovered for at least 30 minutes; longer is better for flavor development.
