Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium carrot, finely chopped
- 1 stalk celery, diced
- 28 oz can San Marzano tomatoes
- 1 cup dry red wine
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Sauté onions, carrots, and celery until softened (about 5 minutes).
- Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute before incorporating ground beef. Cook until browned (approximately 7 minutes).
- Pour in red wine and let it simmer until reduced (about 3 minutes).
- Stir in canned tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a gentle boil then reduce heat to low.
- Allow the sauce to simmer uncovered for at least 30 minutes; longer is better for flavor development.
- Taste and adjust seasoning before serving over pasta.
