Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 6 oz chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round 9-inch cake pans and dust with flour.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and softened butter until crumbly. Gradually add milk and eggs while mixing until smooth.
- Pour batter evenly into prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown. Cool in pans before transferring to wire racks.
- For the custard filling, whisk together milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened (about 5–7 minutes). Stir in vanilla extract and let cool.
- Assemble the cake by layering one cake on a serving plate, spreading half of the custard on top, then adding the second layer and topping it with the remaining custard.
- Melt chocolate chips with heavy cream until smooth; pour over the assembled cake allowing it to drip down the sides.
