  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 oz dark chocolate (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round baking pans and dust with flour.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder.
  3. Beat butter and sugar in another bowl until light and fluffy (3-4 minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients alternating with milk until just combined.
  6. Divide batter between pans and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown; cool completely.
  7. For the custard, heat milk, sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks in a saucepan until thickened (5-7 minutes), stirring constantly.
  8. Cool the custard; cover to prevent skin from forming.
  9. For ganache, heat heavy cream until simmering then pour over dark chocolate. Let sit for 5 minutes before stirring until smooth.
  10. Assemble by layering custard between cake layers and topping with ganache.
