- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 large eggs (room temperature)
- ¾ cup whole milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup heavy cream (for ganache)
- 6 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 box vanilla pudding mix (3.4 oz)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- In another bowl, cream the softened butter until light and fluffy. Gradually mix in the sugar.
- Add eggs one at a time, then mix in milk and vanilla until smooth.
- Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Prepare custard according to pudding mix instructions using half the recommended liquid; chill until thickened.
- For ganache, heat heavy cream until steaming. Pour over chocolate chips and stir until smooth.
- Assemble by layering one cake with half of the custard, topping it with the second cake layer, remaining custard, and finishing with ganache.
- Chill for at least an hour before serving.
