Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round baking pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time while mixing; then alternate adding dry ingredients with milk until the batter is smooth.
  4. Pour batter evenly into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. For the custard filling, heat milk and vanilla in a saucepan; in another bowl, whisk cornstarch and sugar before gradually mixing into the warm milk until thickened.
  6. For the ganache topping, heat heavy cream until simmering, pour over chopped chocolate, stir until smooth, then let cool slightly.
  7. Assemble by layering cake, custard, cake again, custard again, and drizzling with ganache.
