  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until a soft dough forms; reserve about one cup of dough for topping.
  4. Press the remaining dough evenly into the prepared pan.
  5. In another bowl, mix pitted cherries with sugar until evenly coated. Pour this mixture over the pressed dough.
  6. Crumble the reserved dough over the cherry filling.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown on top; let cool before slicing.
