  • 4 medium russet potatoes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • Tartar sauce for serving

Instructions

  1. Rinse and pat dry the fillets, then cut into serving-sized pieces.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Gradually whisk in beer or sparkling water until smooth.
  3. Peel and cut potatoes into wedges; soak in water for 30 minutes.
  4. In a deep pan, heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Dip fish in batter and fry until golden brown (about 4-5 minutes). Remove with a slotted spoon onto paper towels.
  6. Plate the fish and chips hot with tartar sauce on the side.
