Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 and ½ cups warm water (110°F/43°C)
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
- 2 teaspoons sea salt
- 2 tablespoons fresh herbs (rosemary or thyme), chopped
Instructions
- Activate the yeast by mixing warm water and yeast in a bowl. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and olive oil, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough gently, then transfer to an oiled baking sheet and shape it into your desired form.
- Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle fresh herbs and sea salt on top, cover again, and let rise for another 30 minutes while preheating your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
