- 8 oz elbow macaroni
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp mustard powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ½ cup breadcrumbs (optional)
Instructions
- Boil salted water in a large pot. Add macaroni and cook until al dente according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and sauté chopped onion and minced garlic until translucent (about 3–4 minutes).
- Add ground beef to the skillet, cooking until browned; drain excess fat if needed.
- Stir in flour, then gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Add cheddar cheese while stirring until melted.
- Fold cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce mixture; season with mustard powder and paprika.
- Transfer to a greased baking dish if using breadcrumbs, sprinkle on top, and bake at 350°F for 20 minutes until golden.
