  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (optional)

Instructions

  1. Boil salted water in a large pot. Add macaroni and cook until al dente according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and sauté chopped onion and minced garlic until translucent (about 3–4 minutes).
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet, cooking until browned; drain excess fat if needed.
  4. Stir in flour, then gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Add cheddar cheese while stirring until melted.
  5. Fold cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce mixture; season with mustard powder and paprika.
  6. Transfer to a greased baking dish if using breadcrumbs, sprinkle on top, and bake at 350°F for 20 minutes until golden.
