- 1 lb Italian sausage (sweet or spicy)
- 12 oz pasta (penne or fusilli)
- 28 oz canned whole peeled tomatoes
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 cup fresh basil, chopped
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Cook pasta in salted boiling water according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the onion until translucent (about 5 minutes).
- Crumble and add the Italian sausage to the skillet; cook until browned.
- Stir in minced garlic and canned tomatoes (crushed). Simmer for about 10 minutes to thicken the sauce.
- Mix in fresh basil just before serving.
- Combine cooked pasta with the sauce in the skillet, tossing gently to coat.
