  • 12 oz pasta (penne or fusilli)
  • 28 oz canned whole peeled tomatoes
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook pasta in salted boiling water according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the onion until translucent (about 5 minutes).
  3. Crumble and add the Italian sausage to the skillet; cook until browned.
  4. Stir in minced garlic and canned tomatoes (crushed). Simmer for about 10 minutes to thicken the sauce.
  5. Mix in fresh basil just before serving.
  6. Combine cooked pasta with the sauce in the skillet, tossing gently to coat.
