  • ½ cup cocoa powder (Dutch-processed)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries (sliced) or strawberry jam
  • 1 cup whipped cream (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease three 9-inch round cake pans with butter and dust with flour.
  2. In a large bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients while alternating with milk until combined.
  4. Divide the batter into three bowls: mix vanilla extract into one bowl, cocoa powder into another for chocolate flavor, and leave the third as is for vanilla.
  5. Pour each batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely before frosting.
  6. Assemble by layering chocolate first, followed by vanilla, then strawberry or jam on top. Frost generously with whipped cream.
