- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1 cup mushrooms (optional), sliced
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup sloppy joe sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 4 soft sandwich rolls or hoagie buns
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onions and green bell peppers; sauté until soft, about 5-7 minutes.
- Increase heat slightly and add ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce and optional mushrooms; cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until mushrooms soften.
- Pour in the sloppy joe sauce, mix well, and simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes to combine flavors.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the mixture, cover briefly until melted (about 2 minutes).
- Spoon generous portions onto each bun and serve while hot.
