- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
- ½ cup baking soda
- 2 tsp kosher salt
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
- Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast; let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Gradually add flour and salt to the yeast mixture; stir until combined and knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- Preheat oven to 450°F. Boil water in a large pot and carefully stir in baking soda.
- Punch down dough, divide into small pieces, roll into ropes, and cut into bite-sized pieces.
- Boil each piece in the baking soda solution for 30 seconds before placing on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
