Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast; let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Gradually add flour and salt to the yeast mixture; stir until combined and knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  4. Preheat oven to 450°F. Boil water in a large pot and carefully stir in baking soda.
  5. Punch down dough, divide into small pieces, roll into ropes, and cut into bite-sized pieces.
  6. Boil each piece in the baking soda solution for 30 seconds before placing on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
