- 1 can (5 oz) high-quality tuna, drained
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup finely chopped celery
- 1/4 cup finely diced onion
- 2 tbsp butter, softened
- 4 slices thick-sliced sourdough or whole grain bread
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine drained tuna, mayonnaise, celery, onion, salt, and pepper until well blended.
- Place two slices of bread on a clean surface. Generously spoon the tuna mixture onto each slice and top with grated cheddar.
- Cover with remaining bread slices and spread butter evenly on both sides of each sandwich.
- Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Grill sandwiches for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
- Cover the skillet with a lid for an additional 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese thoroughly.
- Serve warm and slice in half if desired.
