Instructions

- In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk with half of the sugar until it's hot but not boiling.
- In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks with the remaining sugar until pale and fluffy.
- Gradually add the warm milk mixture into the egg yolks while whisking continuously to avoid scrambling.
- Return the mixture to low heat, stirring constantly until it thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon (about 5-8 minutes).
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and butter until fully melted.
