Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 45 lemons)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 4 cups filtered water

Instructions

  1. Rinse the strawberries under cold water, remove the stems, and slice them into quarters.
  2. In a large pitcher, combine half of the sliced strawberries with the basil leaves. Muddle gently to release their flavors.
  3. Add granulated sugar and freshly squeezed lemon juice to the muddled mixture; stir until sugar dissolves.
  4. Pour in the filtered water and add the remaining strawberry slices. Mix well.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill and allow flavors to meld. Serve over ice with additional basil for garnish.
