Instructions
- Peel and thinly slice the onions for even cooking.
- In a large skillet, melt butter and olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.
- Add sliced onions and a pinch of salt; stir to coat evenly.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and cook for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally until deeply golden brown.
- If using, add sugar halfway through cooking for added sweetness.
- In the last few minutes, toss in fresh thyme for an aromatic twist.
