  • 12 oz ziti pasta
  • 1 lb ground beef (medium or lean)
  • 24 oz marinara sauce
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh basil or parsley (chopped)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Boil salted water in a pot for the ziti.
  2. Cook ziti until al dente (8-10 minutes), drain, and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium heat (5-7 minutes) until cooked through.
  4. Add marinara sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper; simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Mix ricotta cheese with an egg (optional), half of the herbs, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  6. In a baking dish, layer half of the cooked ziti followed by meat sauce, dollops of ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes; remove foil and bake an additional 15-20 minutes until golden.
