Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans with butter.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Gradually mix into the dry ingredients.
  4. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  5. For the custard filling: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine milk and cornstarch until smooth. Stir continuously until thickened; remove from heat and mix in vanilla extract.
  6. For the chocolate glaze: Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in short bursts until smooth, then stir in heavy cream gradually.
  7. Assemble: Place one cake layer on a plate, spread half of the custard filling on top, add the second layer, and pour chocolate glaze over.
