Prepare the Butter
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until creamy and smooth.
Add Sugar and Liquid
- Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until combined.
- Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract, then mix on medium speed until the frosting is light and fluffy.
Adjust Consistency
- If the frosting is too thick, add a little more cream. If too thin, add more powdered sugar.
Frost Your Cakes
- Use a spatula to spread the buttercream frosting on your cooled cakes or cupcakes.
Notes
Store any leftover frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Bring to room temperature and re-whip before using.
