Ingredients
  

Frosting Base
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened at room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Method
 

Prepare the Butter
  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until creamy and smooth.
Add Sugar and Liquid
  1. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until combined.
  2. Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract, then mix on medium speed until the frosting is light and fluffy.
Adjust Consistency
  1. If the frosting is too thick, add a little more cream. If too thin, add more powdered sugar.
Frost Your Cakes
  1. Use a spatula to spread the buttercream frosting on your cooled cakes or cupcakes.

Notes

Store any leftover frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Bring to room temperature and re-whip before using.
