Prepare the Frosting Base
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar, softened butter, egg yolks, and evaporated milk.
- Cook while stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble, about 10 minutes.
Add Flavorings and Toppings
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans.
- Let the frosting cool to room temperature before spreading it on the cake.
Notes
This frosting can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. Reheat gently before using if it becomes too thick.
